Ingrown Toenail Treatments

Ingrowing Toe nails can be treated conservatively, or with a procedure to permanently correct the problem.

Conservative treatment

An ingrowing nail is caused by a toe nail which is impacting the surrounding skin. This leads to pain and often infection

Conservative treatment involves gently trimming away the offending nail with a fine blade. This can be done as a one-off, or as regularly as needed.

Permanent Removal

Permanent removal of an ingrown nail is indicated when the problem is chronic, or too severe to be treated conservatively. The procedure involves the following steps.

  1. The toe is numbed with a local anaesthetic

  2. The offending nail margin is cut to the base of the nail and removed (painlessly!)

  3. The side of the nail margin is cauterised to prevent regrowth

The procedure is performed in our rooms, and the patient is able to walk out afterwards. Panadol is all that is needed for any post-operative pain.

Once healed, cosmetics are unaffected

We perform hundreds of these procedures every year. In addition, we now use Sodium hydroxide to prevent regrowth- Faster healing and less complications.

Patients can either book the procedure directly, or book an initial consultation to discuss beforehand.
